Neat black squirrel. If I shot one like that, I think I'd have to have it mounted.

I really feel sorry for guys that have to deal with short seasons and small bag limits. Here in Missouri our season starts on the Saturday before Memorial Day and ends on Feb. 15. My favorite time of the year though is the middle of August. That's when the hickory nuts become irresistible to timber chickens(that's what we call'em.) It's not uncommon to set up near a big ol' hickory and take a limit of 10. That's what I dream of in the off season!

Well, I wouldn't call 5 1/2 mos. a short season, but it wouldn't break my heart to have a season as long as yours, in Missouri.

Today was the last day of this season here in Alabama. I got out into the woods for a while but never did see any squirrels, so that's it until October. It was a good season for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will be waiting impatiently for this fall to roll around.

Did something neat to my H&R Sportster. The trigger pull was crisp and clean, but at 5 1/2 lbs. At my gunsmiths suggestion, I bought an aerosol can of liquid graphite, and completely soaked the trigger area. When it dried, I dry fired it with a snapcap in the chamber, 15-20 times. Then, I cocked the gun. While holding the hammer all the way back, I squeezed the trigger as hard as I could for a few seconds, then let it back down. I repeated that about 20 times. Took the rifle back to the gunsmith to have the trigger checked again, and it came out at a very clean 2 1/2 lbs!
To say I was a happy camper, is an understatement!

I've enjoyed the thread a lot. PN, I love that stock everytime I see it. Yesterday was our last day. I set up in the early AM in a patch of big oaks. Soon as it got light, one popped out a hole, leaped to the tree I was sitting against and started coming down. When I raised the rifle, it froze, and at the shot, it leaped about 15 feet to another tree, hit the ground and high-tailed it into the scrub. I was cussing my point blank miss, when another one popped out the same hole, and the whole thing repeated. Did manage to get one later in the morning.... Wonder how much a small game out of state permit costs in the show-me-state?

I hear you. Moody deer cut into my small game time this season. I didn't get my fill.
I need to read up on steep angle short range shots. I think I'm doing something wrong.
Incidentally, I had my H&R single shot's trigger reworked recently. Makes a big difference. Mine's a muzzle loader/shotgun set up....

Thumbs up on bluegill fishing, but I'm down to my last 11 rounds of Winchester power points and have about 20 rounds of cci. Other than that, a box of assorted solids. Reckon I should save it all for next season?!
