Doc tumbling a bowling pin with Tom's musket. Whelen Nut- Thanks for making and posting those photos. I had a lot of fun talking people into trying out the long rifle during the range session. I wish I had not run low on patches so that others could have tried it. Long rifles like this one, if made properly with a swamped barrel, have a deceptive appearance. They look awkward, heavy, and unhandy. As several at the hog shoot discovered, they are surprisingly light, and the sights just seem to hang on target once they're lined up. Tom Snyder made this one for me in 2009. He's pretty talented, and was selected to build the NMLRA Raffle Rifle for 2013. That one is on the cover of the March 2013 issue of Muzzle Blasts. I was especially impressed with young Jake. After 30 seconds of instruction about set triggers, he hauled up the rifle and solidly [u]smacked[/i] a bowling pine dead center at 60 (75?) yards. I fell in love with that front stuffer! That's easy to do with an elegant long rifle! --Bob Bob, thanks for letting us shoot the long rifle, it was indeed an interesting piece. I have a couple of Hawkens, but have not shot a long rifle before
