.300 WSM for elk 7mm-08 for whitetails ...
donsm70 +1. This is also my current preference, but I am thinking a 280AI may cover both elk and deer nicely.

Anklebiter: Did I post it before?...oh please forgive me Mister Monitor At least I don't have to start a thread asking what bullet I should use..... Would think someone with your "experience" could figure that out for themselves....LOL! I suspect I know the reason you need to ask. Before I forget...GFY.

For what, where and how you hunt what's your favorite cartridge? 6.5 x 57 Mauser.... due to the rarity, the age of it ( designed in the early 1890s) and its capabilities ( flat shooting)....easy to load for ( just neck up 257 Roberts brass...( a 6.5 x 55 equivalent, in a 257 Roberts case)....

Well we're Green and we're Gold, and we play better when it's cold. All us Cheese heads have our favorite superstar. We love Brett Favre.

I can't decide which is my favorite. 222 Rem, 30-30 Win, or 35 Whelen, can't decide which. Indecision may or may not be my problem.
Shoot straight or shoot often.

For me, its a tie between the .30-06 and the 6.5x55.

257 Roberts. Optimal recoil and power combined with a nice range of bullet choice nicely straddling the varmint/game fence. Also allows me to use my favorite rifle... a Remington Model 30s.
