Neither were flintlocks.. I guess that puts the conception of the 26 Nosler right on up there with invention of smokeless powder then..... Hardly, but by this logic the .264 would have never been made, because the .270 fit the bill nicely already. I for one dont think MFg offering new stuff is a bad thing. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

15 years ago non of us had cell phones, GPS in the car etc. New cartridges that add a hundred feet a second are hardly the technological leap of cell phones and GPS. Exactly. There are more disadvantages, practically speaking, that outweigh that 100fps "advantage" IMO. Point being, some new cartridges are much more viable options than others.........

The 'Swede' was developed in 1891, but not put into production until 1894they were afraid to show up on the scene that was-and is-dominated by the 7x57.

Montana Rifle Company is chambering the 26... Nosler and Montana chamberings for the 26 Nosler. When is the last time you see one in your LGS? How many loonies can afford a $3500 rifle? Until Remington, Winchester, Savage, and Ruger chamber rifles it ain't gonna happen. It will be as popular as the 300 SAUM!! My LGS stocks MRC rifles...
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

I'm not against new cartridges. Hardly. But they must bring something to the table, or fill a niche.
The 480 Ruger, 204 Ruger, for example. They filled a niche that was previously unoccupied in factory form.
The 26 Nosler offering does not do that, IMO. But if one likes it, by all means, buy one. Options are nice to have........

Huh. I was out shooting my .30-40 Krag today with cast boolits (311299 for the casting loonies). Shot several sub-MOA groups at 100 yds and only missed the 6" gong once - with Scheutzen sights. Stevens 44 1/2 Little did I know that I was shooting that which manufacturers are still trying to improve upon... And I probably only burned enough powder with 37 shots to load only about four 26 Nosler loads...

There are plenty of shooters and gun owners that have moved beyond the WalMart counters. I doubt they are too worried about volume as long as it turns a profit.

Any super-zapper will struggle in the age of spinning turrets. 6.5 Creedmoor was a much more solid design in this day and age.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

Shoulder fired hunting weapons are soon to be a thing of the past- We'll be using remote controlled, armed drones to harvest ranch raised elk from the comfort of our couch-

Prairie goat.....I think you missed my point. I agree with you, but we lower 48 hunters could all just use a 06 or 270, 12 gauge .22lr and be done.....right. i'm in product development. It's my job to think up all kinds of stuff guys really don't need for fishing. kind of biased i guess.

With today's bullets and scopes, hitting something far away isn't that tough anymore.

I love the 6.5's, but this one is a real niche cartridge. Way overbore, a barrel burner IMHO. I can't really see what it does that has not been done before. A hot rod 264Mag in a short fat case. Interesting, but not that much so.

The weird thing is, 6.5's aren't all that popular and there are a ton of options already...
260 Rem, 6.5 Creed, 6.5x47, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5x55, 6.5-284, 6.5-06, 6.5 SAUM, 264 Win mag...etc.

The 26 Nosler will shoot flatter (due to higher velocity) and this will encourage the ethically-challenged hunter(?) to take longer shots for which he is not prepared. I think this cartridge is a solution just looking for a problem. That could probably be said about every cartridge since the 30-06. Too many slob hunters and nimrods to overcome because they frickin know it all.

The very essence of capitalism is to bring new products to the marketplace. The consumer is the ultimate judge of the need for a new product. Time will tell if the item is on a waiting list or the closeout rack.
My home is the "sanctuary residence" for my firearms.
