I was quoting the owner of that rig, and while using his Winch I was sure not going to argue with him about the exact amount of wire or ask the man to measure it for me. All I know for sure is that it is a LOT of cable, and enough to easily reach down to the bottom of any canyon on his property. I also know that the cable is iin fact very heavy, and one would not want to pack it anywhere other than down. As to the truck the winch sits in, It is a highly modified full size truck with 1 ton axles and springs, plus other re inforcements to haul around that winch apparatus and it never, ever sees the highway. It is strictly a big game recovery tool for his family and the few invited guests who are allowed to hunt there.

The man who owns the ranch and the truck also owns a car parts store, is an accomplished welder and farm equipment repairman and this truck project was and is quite a source of pride for him.

Coobie, my dad is also a retired lineman with a mere 36 years under his belt (IBEW 1002). And you should know you just can't argue with a "guy" with tatted-up guns, an "uberfast" magnum, a "finisher" who completes kills for piss-poor shot animals, a certain penchant for freeloading, begging, and constantly rattling a tin cup. Safariman has all the answers and a fair number of fellow dirtbags who'll high-five him and wage his arguments.

And, you are probably right on. But, when a man is helping you with towing something out like he was, it certainly is no time to question his claims or other details of his prize build and toy. Regardless of the exact amount of cable, it is an ingenious and amazing as well as useful concotion and effort.

Sort of like "You don't look a gift horse in the mouth" At least not in front of the giver of said gift. IF he had told me it was a HUNDRED miles of cable, I would have smiled and complimented him on his fine machine, while enjoying the benefits of it in hauling my bear up and out of a nasty canyon.

You mean JJHACK's bear. He killed it, you didn't.

Agreed. But, if all you were doing was quoting the owner, why put emphasis on the amount of cable the way you did without having actual, factual lnowledge of thhe amount of cable?

Maybe simply stating that the landowner had a very ingeneious way of retrieving large game animals via a truck bed mounted winch.

Safariman is the Milli Vanilli of this board: he leeches onto someone with more talent and skill and takes credit.

BT, I don't know, and i'm only commenting on those two posst wherenit seemed to me there was an obvious back track

That was a great Bear. And it isn't up to anyone here to tell him he has no right to be proud of it
Here, as in other states, by law the guy who finished it should have tagged it. However i have finished off deer that other guys in my club have hit and wounded, that we all started tracking. Ain't noone perfect. And anyone who has never wounded or lost an animal, has either not hunted much or is a flat out liar.

The above said I'm not a fan of leaving animals go after dark. I'm also not above putting more than one shot into an animal immediately after the first, if I have even the slightest thought of it being wounded. And i sure as hell wouldn't go into detail about the screw ups Even realizing humans being humans, to
My tatse there was way to much braggadiccio in the O.P.

Actually it is. A chronically freeloading scumbag posted in a public forum about making a poor shot on a game animal, was not prepared to track and finish it, let the animal languish overnight, and then wants a high five and a slap on the back. No conscience, no shame, no sense. The trifecta of stupidity.

I said he had a right to be proud of the bear. It was recovered and didn't rot in the woods. However. I do agree that maybe certain details should have been left out. And one thread about the hunt is peobabky sufficient

I have made some bad shots on animals. I admit it. I would not brag about it like I did something good! However, following up a bad shot IS a good thing. Happens to everybody, sooner or later. The animal was recovered, and that is the important thing. The tatted up arms being referred to as "guns" is a stretch, though. If they are guns, they are bb guns...The crowd I lift with would be kinda sad about them.

I've enumerated some of the major points here. Help me understand in what way Milli Vanilli should be "proud" of JJHACK's bear and his (lack of) ethics.

I think your spot on. Should be shameful of such bear, suffer all night and someone else had to finish what he started, embarrassed comes to mind if I was the hunter.
