Giving some thoughts on the 7mm-08. Can anyone recommend a brand? Other than Kimber, Cooper or Tikka, that is.

Remington Mountain Guide Remington Model 7 with either an Mcmillian Edge or a Brown Stock
Neither of the above comes up for sale very often, but they're both great rifle platforms.

I've read the Ruger has an atrocious trigger...maybe that's the Hawkeye...LC6 I think it's called.
How about a Vanguard S2?

I picked up a Remington SPS stainless 7MM-08 a little over a year ago, chopped the barrel to 22.5" and dropped it in a Classic Edge - shoots about everything really well and is a nice rifle IMHO.

Wasn't there a featherweight 7mm-08 for sale in the classifieds yesterday?

Well, since Cooper and Kimber are out, this little single-shot has worked well for me Merkel k1, 7mm-08 or if a repeater is in order, I've had excellent luck with this Browning Micro Medallion in 7-08 light, handy quick, and an excellent shooter. The Savage model 14 American Classic is also chambered in 7-08 IIRC. If you're a synthetic guy, Nolser and Forbes are chamberings rifles in 7-08. A Remington 700 in a LVSF, or if you like heavy barrels a 7-08 in the VLS laminte is pretty sweet also. And has been mentioned, no flies on Sakos. Good luck in your quest. Best, GWB

IMO find a Sako A7, I have had several Finnlights over the years and they are nice but I really like the short action A7's especially their 22" barrels instead of the 20" finnlights.
