Remington model 12 22 rifle. My fathers first gun. Bought it for 2 bucks when he was 12. That would make it 80 years old.

Remington 1 1/2 rolling block, .32-20. 1880's and would probably still shoot if I could see the sights.

My primary deer rifle is a Marlin 336 .30-30 made in 1953. It is my favorie and I am not sure how you can improve much on the design when hunint the N.C. mountains.

1914-vintage .303 savage. Soon to be usurped by an 1896 Krag sporter.

The oldest rifle I ever used deer hunting, strictly speaking, was my 200� year old N.Beyer Pennsylvania long rifle, family heirloom, .48 caliber flintlock that I loaded and fired at a deer in the field behind the house on the event of my 40th birthday more than a few years ago. Luckily I missed, as deer season was over, and yes there was a little alcohol involved. It was the one and only time I ever fired that gun.

Everything I own is old. And prolly close to being worn out. I suppose the oldest rifle I regularly hunt with is this '98 Krag, 1901 variant.

Several highly sporterized former war trophy Mausers with new wood, barrels etc. so I consider them to be 'modern' rifles in every respect now. I have had older, but my oldest right now is also a gun I have owned since 1973 (My 13th birthday) and it is on its third stock and third barrel. It is a Remington 1917 Action, much tweaked and upgraded. It took my biggest ever black bear from 350 yards out last fall, then was toted by a kid from our church during elk season and he managed to simaultneouly take a bull elk and aquire his first "Magnum Eyebrow" cut I shot my first deer with it when I was 14 and it was still a 30/06. Some years later, with a fresh upgrade to 300WBY I bagged my first Bear and Elk with it. Its barrel for the last 20 years, and probably for ever more, is a 338 wildcat that is the 8mm RemMAg necked up with no other changes. VERY deadly round and rifle:

Oldest in the collection is a Savage 1899, dated Feb.1899.
Oldest that has killed is a the Savage Model 20, dated 1927.

I like the looks of older guns, but evidently I've gotten used to
the newer shape of rifle stocks. I purchased a pre '64 model 70 Winchester and a beautiful early Savage 99 with the brass rotary magazine.

The stock in both of these beautiful old rifles were designed for iron sights with a lot of drop at the heel. They kick upwards about as much as the kick back, and with my face planted high on the stock for scope use, they bashed my jaw and teeth when firing, had to give them up and no longer own either.

I have a 5 digit serial number 99 Savage that I have killed deer with. I put a .22 HP liner in it. Does it still count? Sorry, no digital camera.

Just today I bought a new oldest rifle. It is a Sempert Krieghoff drilling made in 1944. Cartridges are 16ga and 7x57R. It is in almost 100% condition, and I am pleased as all get out!

1896 Krag, which has been in my family a long time. Gave it to an uncle, who killed his first deer with it many moons ago.



This original High Wall, circa 1900, took a large sow last year. It was rebarreled at some point in its life, and became a .45-90 carbine.

More old crap. But it's the kinda crap I like.
