The Krag was an interesting, and well made action. One of these days I'd like to acquire a nice sporter, like the one you have up top.

This one began life in 1917 and later had a facelift but, I don't know when. If you look carefully a slot has been cut in the receiver for the Petersen device making this a Springfield 1903 Mark 1. The 20 1/4" barrel makes this a very handy rifle for woods use.

I've shown these pics a few times, but once more won't hurt: Unknown year Springfield 1898 Krag: Next oldest is a 1917 .303 Savage Don't know they year, but my Ithica 16 gauge I suspect is from the 30s: I also have a 1912 Sav 1899 in .22 HP, but have only killed bunnies with it so far. I have several rifles from the 30s and 40s too, but they're not really "old" yet...

This Mauser receiver was made in 1897, stamped on the left side of the receiver. I believe its a 95 pattern but purely a sporting variant, one of the ones made in Berlin and exported to Orange Free State. Its a 308 and I have been using it since 1984 at the age of 13. The barrel was a take off from a target rifle and I have put probably 8000 rounds through it. Still groups 10 shots under 1.5 inches at 100y!

And this is my trusty 303. My Dad used to use this when he was a commercial fisherman to shoot sharks when they were hooked and ready to be pulled into the boat! I use it on much more sedate game such as feral pigs and goats. Seems to work pretty well. Its a No1MkIII made at Lithgow in 1944.

Although I have some great "modernized" pre 64 M70's I still enjoy hunting my classy old original model 70's.

At least you kicked the salt block outta the picture.

The two oldest rifles that I have hunted and taken deer with are; Winchester made 1917 Enfield in 30-06 (made 1918) and a Marlin 336 in 30-30 (made in 1949). Both rifles were my maternal Grandfather's.

My two oldest are rimfires,1920s vintage Remington M24 gallery gun, and a Stevens 86D bolt-action tube-fed rifle. Both will still shoot as good as my eyes will let me shoot iron sights.

I'll jump on the 1899 Savage bandwagon.
