"For those who know, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation is possible." Or something like that.

"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown

Looking at this one real intently. You think ingwe would give his blessings? 7x57, of course.

Thanks for the heads-up. That's some really pretty wood. I'll let you know how it shoots.

Nah, I'm just messing with you. Do you remember the scene in Fargo with the wood chipper? That'd be my wife feeding my leg into it.

Now, you know she'd never do that. Maybe the dog house for a week with just one handful of kibble a day and a cup of water.

Actually, I'm fighting a battle between that one and this beauty.

Yep, but it's awfully purdy and as near a NIB pre-64 as I'd likely find.

I understand they only made about 1400+ in 7x57 in the pre-64.

Yeah and enterprising individuals in the aftermarket have made about 14,000really caveat emptor when it comes to pre-64s in 7x57.

I was concerned about brass. I did find someone with a bag of 100 new Winchester cases for the 7x57. I have dies on the way. All I need now is the rifle. I still have a box of old Nosler 7mm 140 gr Partition bullets left over from the 70's. That would be a good start.

Isn't there one on the Cabela site?

If you want brass, you can buy an entire case (500 rounds) of new Prvi for about $335. You can have fun with the factory stuff and have all the brass you want. From what I understand, it holds up pretty well.

I haven't checked them. I did find a Cooper 7x57 on Guns America, I think it was but, it looked more like a target rifle than a classic 7x57.

I'm picky about brass...Winchester, Lapua or Norma...maybe Nosler.

I just checked: made in 1953. If you search the gun library for Mauser, you'll come up with other 7x57s, including a Model 700 in 8x57 as well.

Gunbroker had a Cooper for a while. Nice rifle.

If a really hot red-headed 7x57 mated with a tall and handsome 270 on the African savannah, the offspring would be a 280. Just sayin...
