If it were me, I'd be looking at 2001 and later GM 1/2t which has the very good LS engine. Should be able to find one within the budget. If it's for hunting, the extended cab works better than a fullsize crew cab. An EC door opens from the front and it's a lot more convenient getting stuff-rifles- in/out. I take the back seat out and build a carpeted storage shelf.

I would much rather move my kid towards something he can look back on and think positively about. Tacoma. Any of the full size stuff with his budget is asking for buying someone else's problems.

A properly purchased 6-7K truck is just as good as any 10K truck. That's a very hard number to find with the price of new stuff the way it is... There are a bunch of Tacomas up here but anything over 5 years old your dealing with rust.

I looked at a 02 4X4 Crew V6 TRD the other day. I can buy it for around 12K I think. 130K on it maybe. Perfect truck on paper and a steal until you realize your gonna be painting it etc because of our salt. Truck is tight but not well taken care of. If anyone wants the info for a beater I would be happy to forward it. Great truck. I just dont have the space for bodywork anymore..
