Mule Deer,

I am looking forward to the Modern 270 article. When is it likely to be published? Can you give us any spoilers?

I look at things differently...as I gotta have a very good reason to go to a long action. Rest assured,a [bleep] 270Win ain't it,nor close. Hint.

Good to hear, that twist rates and numerical designators now matter. That was close!

This +1

I'm still messing around with my second .270. I have loads developed with 130's, 140's, and 150's all of which you can cover with a dime. All of which hit paper 1.5 inches high at 100yds.

Not sure which bullet with get the nod. The 130's are Horn Interlock, 140 partition and 150 partition. Rifle Sako A7.

Yep, similar to Coca Cola in that it's the real thing, the American classic.

I may need to try the 110 Accubond in mine, probably could get speeds in the upper 3200's and wouldn't need a .257 Wby.

I think I know of a 550 yard open spot on that farm...

A Vanilla SAAMI 243Win of modest barrel length, will push a .547BC at 3000fps. Was flingin' 'em at 3200fps in a S/A,this afternoon too.

My lowly 7-08AI scoots a .625BC at 2825fps. Was shooting 'em at 3125fps this afternoon, ala another S/A too.

Flunged quite a few .435BC's at 3450fps this afternoon.

A 270 is farrrrrrrrrr from being a sound decision to leave a S/A.

Hornady's do well in two 270's I have but they lag just a bit behind Nosler's 130 gr Ballistic Tips with 59.5 gr of H4831. You ought to give the a try.

But more powder and recoil to get 260'ish results just makes more sense....... grin

I like the 260...and the 7-08....and the 243....and the 308. I didn't buy a 270 to replace those. I just added another toy.

My two favorite cartridges are the 223 and the 243. I tend to pull those out for duty more than the others.

My reasons for wanting another .270 are kinda nostalgic. A bunch of good memories made with a .270 in my hands

The numbers indicate it should be "inferior" but it sure never worked out that way for me on critters.

Backwards is never forwards and being in a hurry to make a bad decision...ain't much to laude.

I gotta have good reason(s) to jump to a L/A and the 270 sure as [bleep] ain't it,nor close.

S/A .547BC's at 3325fps.

'Course,it ain't like I haven't suffered a buncha 270's over the years,I just ain't very proud of the fact.

.270's makes fine "pussy-cat" rifles. Ain't nary a reason not to own but just a few and its hard to make bout any .270 not shoot under the magic inch.
