I doubt if there's a cartridge that I don't like. Keep in mind that before Holland & Holland decided to put belts on big cartridges, our hunting forefathers were doin' it all with the '06 & our Canadian neighbors were doin' it all with the .303 British. But I do like Weatherby cartridges.

There isn't a WBY cartridge I've ever really had an itch to have. 257 just a smidgen but that went away quickly.
There isn't a WBY rifle I've ever wanted either.

Roy's chambering were/are always much better than his rifles...those with more than (2) lugs, being the biggest POS.

He connected alotta dots in the pre-LRF Days and I've most of the T-shirts...............

Woot! Weather just broke. Was pea soup to the literal deck this early AM,now it's starting to look plausible to mebbe find a victim for one of the 20 Deer Tags in the house.

Could wait until Fall,to keep it a "fair" Maine Minimum but Season has only been open nearly a month and there's only 4 more months left. Should tote an '06,if only for laughs!

Decisions...decisions.................(grin)

Moose, Have had several rebarreled 700's in .257 Wea. Mostly used it on coyotes, antelope and deer.. I have a 7mm Wea. 300, and 340.. I use the .340 least, but it is a great caliber.. I no longer have the .257.. I use my 7mm instead.. I can shoot a 120 for coyotes and deer faster out of it than the .257 and still have the option of heavier bullets.. I bought Rem. brass for the 300, and made the 340 brass out of 8 mag. brass.. the 7mm is easily made from 7mm Rem. brass.. I like the Wea. calibers.. But my fav. is still the .300 win.

Fotis, nice timber. The flat finish is much better than some of those glossy ones too.

The LGS has a new Mark V , a new Vanguard S2, and a Vanguard Whitetail Bonz edition, all three are in .257 WM. Very tempting. I haven't had one for about 8 years now.

270 Weatherby for me. 130 Berger VLD Classic Hunter at 3450 or a 150 LRAB at 3200 will do all I need.

I do like a 26" barrel on a 257 Roy..........

100 gr. Partition @ 3,650 FPS works.

GWB ias it going on, to be sure. I wouldn't put my .340 Bee against him any day of the week and for sure not on Sunday. I'd be thrilled to call him a campfire brother, though.

.300 Bee is the only cartridge I have experience with. My dad bought a Mark V in Germany while he was stationed there, 1962 IIRC.

Geedub,
I agree the two five seven shines with a 26". Unfortunately the Vanguards don't get a long tube. Thy still smoke a .25-06 though.

I'm really surprised the 7mm Bee is getting so much love. I had always regarded it as one of the redheaded stepchildren of the Weatherby lineup due to thee fact that every Mark V I seem to see is in .257,.270 , or 300.

A 26 in barrel is the only way to fly on the 257 Roy. I've had a few Vanny's and the muzzle blast was ferocious at 24 inches. Converted my last Vanguard to a custom..with a 26 in barrel of course.

115 Ballistic Tips at 3450 are nasty on Coyotes..

...as are 110 AB's at 3500 on Iranian Red Sheep.

However...I'm giving my Roy's a rest. It's all about the new 6-06 for the up-coming season. Remmy 700 action, Brux 8 twist..26 in of course. Shoot's the 105 VLD's very nicely over a stiff charge of MRP. 3300 fps should do the trick!

Probably the 7 mm or the 300 neither of which I've used. Did use the 340 for two decades or so and took about ten bulls with it. I didn't intend it to be a long range affair as most think of it now but to be a hammer on cross canyon, or open country elk say to five hundred yards. It was. I came to love the cartridge and the platform I had it in.

Also used the 270 in a ginned up 700 with the "Weatherby throat" and never could get the accuracy I wanted. It was table-top flat to five hundred though and is the only cartridge I shot OVER a deer with at about 350 once.

I am a fan of both the 300 and 257. The 300 has been my go to all purpose cartridge and it has served me well. The 257 is great for deer, antelope, and hogs.

I just helped a friend setup his UL in 240 and it was a sweet rifle. We shot it yesterday and it was printing nice little 1/2" clusters at 100 yards with 90 grain NABs. It now has me wanting one as well! The UL has a 24" barrel but does not have near the blast or recoil of the 257 so it might be a nice compliment for my other Weatherbys.

With say 85 gr. Partitions??
