Belts and Ping Pong Balls are best inside fences...............

As to belts, you're more of an expert than I; as to inside fences, most of the time that's all I need. smile

Tough to throw '06 logistics aside,so as to "enjoy" a proprietary moot belt...no matter the AO.

I've seen me tie stuff to a tree...............

I do like a 26" barrel on a 257 Roy..........

100 gr. Partition @ 3,650 FPS works.

Best,

The 257 Weatherby is without a doubt, the most impressive deer & hog killer I've ever used. Not a single animal has ever taken a step, probably close to 100 head of game. I own three, an Ultramark I bought at the old Firestone Blvd store from Mr. Roy himself, a custom German Weatherby and a Vanguard with the same upgrades as on my son's post (Timney, McMillan and a different [Zeiss) scope).

That said, if I could only have one rifle/one caliber, my almost twenty year old MKV 300 is it. Over 17 head of African game, bear, deer, hogs and this wartie at around 350 yards off sticks (at the tree line in the photo). One shot w 180gr Partition.

I've been thinking about buying another stainless Vanguard 257 wby or having one built. I got a pile of 257 wby brass collecting dust that hasn't been touched since I sold my last Vanguard. They are fun.

It would be a boring world if we all connected those dots the same way, no?
The .257 gives the guy who is never going to shoot past 500 at game, pretty much everything he needs.

and over 100 yds.

Under 100 and you're looking a jelly for about a 12 inch circle on medium sized game.

I know the craze is shooting long range, but I've only found it necessary to make one kill over 500 yds. The other many hundreds of critters have been 300 yds. and under.

Oh I probably know the chambering well.

Bullets matter more than headstamps and there just happens to be a goodly selection of chamberings, that will do very tidy things inside the 500yd line.

Funny part is,they'll do some well beyond it too...................(hint)

Ya know, B,

After your ringing endorsement of the 300 Weatherby earlier in this thread, I decided I must be missing the mark so to speak.
So I rushed out to my local watering hole to see what I could stir up.
Sho' nuff, there was a feller there that said he'd just returned from the Milford and them green tipped bullets just bounced off those free range northern critters.
I offered my consolation and bought him a shot of Mezcal (the lime was free, courtesy of the establishment). We palavered a bit and I coaxed him out of that 300 Roy.

[Linked Image]

He said it was a fine' shooter, didn't hardly kick at all.

A Remington 700 Classic. I know how much you luv Remingtons, and Wood, so being as it was "B" approved I couldn't hardly pass it up.

I got it cheap, $500 with scope.

[Linked Image]

It did have 5 holes in the shootin' end. Think that might have had something to do with the price???

I figure Texas critters ain't as tough as those on the Milford, so them green tipped bullets should work just fine.

Your thoughts????

Best,

GWB

Back at ya, and 10/4. LOL

If the bullet don't blow 'em over the fence, perhaps the concussion will.

I do like my chicken fried steaks tenderized. LOL

Off a bench under a tin roof, you'll feel the concussion when that thing goes bang... shocked

Will definitely test your hearing protection equipment.

NPT's aren't the sleekest LR bullet, but effective. In some guns, I've seen them prove to be the most accurate bullet.
