Any one else been through this? Started last week.Down to the floor totally helpless, everything spinning and to add to the joy emptied the contents of my stomach. On meclizine now to keep things from spinning. Had a CAT scan all was well there. Seeing a specialist next week. Hope he can figure it out. Just wondering what causes this.

Had a friend/client come down with sever vertigo a couple years ago. Big strapping guy, former college football player who's been through a lot.

He told me he thought he was dying and eventually wanted to die after dealing with the effects for a couple days.

I had vertigo after I got jarred pretty hard in an accident. You need to get those crystals back in their right places. There are directions online on the procedure. In fact there's an appliance you can get that goes on your head to help you make the right moves. One dsy it's just back to normal. Hang in there!

I had it for about 5 months back in 2005..

Had every test done under the sun. Dr.s finally decided I had contracted a virus that either affected the little organ in the ear that has the fluid in it that acts as a gyroscope, or the virus affected the fluid itself.

They thought it would fix itself over time, which it did thankfully.

This will sound weird, but the only relief I got from the dizzy/spinning feeling was going for a ride on my motorcycle.

Something about the bouncing around on the bike, with cool air thru the helmet somehow cancelled out the spinning effect going on in my ear. Actually felt normal for the time I was out riding.

Hope it gets better, cause Vertigo is miserable...

I haven't personally but my wife suffers from it. I believe what triggered hers was a fall down a flight of stairs a couple of years before we met. Hers comes and goes so isn't a daily thing for her to deal with, and episodes do seem to be getting further apart. I think the worst thing for her was a momentary blackout while driving which she fortunately was able to maintain control of her car. She's been in to see various doctors locally over the years but hasn't been able to get any relief when it does act up.

I suffered with it in 2011. It was diagnosed as benign vertigo. If a crystal gets on one of the tiny hail like sensors in your inner ear you get vertigo. Low doses of valium seems to help.

i get it every once in a while. not as bad as yours sounds though. but enough to make me stagger and feel nauseous. i've had it on & off for 15-20 years. went to an ENT guy and he cranked my head around trying to do something that didn't seem to work. i noticed that since i quit smoking cigars it is a lot better.

Your just reliving your late teen years. wink

My dad had vertigo it's a bich. We'd be going down the road (He was driving) and all of the sudden he would lean way over to the center seat and keep driving, he said that when it hit him it would turn the whole world at a 45 degree angle so he would compensate so he wouldn't get in an accident.

It also did other things to him as well and was pretty miserable.

I sure hope you get rid of it quick, good luck.

Had Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo a few years ago. It was bad enough to send me to the ER where they figured it out, and did the Epley maneuver. Felt better in a few hours and haven't (Dear God, KNOCK ON WOOD) had a recurrence. Hope it's something simple like that.

I get temporary positional vertigo from time to time from , as I understand it, crystals forming in the liquid in the inner ear. Take medicine that is pretty much the same as the sea sick pills and it goes away in a couple of weeks.
The test for it is to sit down, lay back quickly and turn you head, if nothing happens get up and do it again turning your head the other way.
If the world goes crazy then it is the positional type

Thanks for the replys. I will keep taking the meclizine prescribed and see what the ear, nose and throat doctor finds out. The ER doctor had me do the lay back and turn my head thing but the world was already spinning at that time. I am determined to get over this somehow.

I had it that bad a year ago. Could not walk without help, almost pitched myself out of chairs, in fact. My family doc sent me to a special clinic for vertigo (didn't even know we had one locally) I fully expected to hear the spiel about calcium crystals and have the Epley maneuver performed but the tests said that wasn't my problem. Instead, I apparently had a pinched nerve in my neck. The specialist did a chiropractic sort of adjustment, and "boink" the problem disappeared.

Who need booze or drugs? When I have an attack it is sit down, lay down, or fall down. A wild four to five hour ride for free.

Funny thing the VA rated me 10% for the tinnitus that come with it, nothing for the hearing loss, and 30% for the vertigo with staggering gate at the rate of once a month. I put in a claim for an increase based on an average of four to five attacks a week. They denied my claim because four to five attacks a week are less than one a month.

So at 4.5 attacks a week times 52 weeks equals 234 attacks a year. Divide by 12 months and I get 19.5 attacks a month. The VA must be using the new core math because they think 19.5 is not more than one. Think I should appeal?
