Same, different, or depends? Or Japan made too?
Specifically, should a US made take-off barrel go right onto a German made action?
Info is much appreciated.

The threads are the same but the chances it will headspace up correct are pretty slim.

1.062" x 16tpi is how they measure here. I made these into 338 Lapua Magnums.

All of them are made very well, I wouldn't sweat the US vs Germany vs Japan thing. A MK V that doesn't shoot is a rare bird indeed. It's also a brute strong and safe action.

A bit of twist (pun) on my original question.
Would a Weatherby Mark V barrel READILY fit another type of commonly available action?

Would a Weatherby Mark V barrel READILY fit another type of commonly available action? The Mark V has the same thread as a Rem 700 at 1-1/16" x 16 tpi. Tenon length of the Wby is shorter but then it doesn't have a recoil lug between the shoulder and the receiver. The counter bore in the chamber end is about .020" bigger than the Rem counterbore. You could push the Wby shoulder ahead to accomodate the recoil lug and adjust headspace and screw it into a 700, but you will have an over size counter bore unless you face it off, cut the Rem counterbore, extend the thread and deepen the chamber. and yes, I have done it. You wouldn't want to pay a 'smith to do this though.

I have pretty much concluded used barrels are a false economy.
Why not spend a couple more bucks and get a brand new exactly what you want?

Bunches of cool Mark V fluted 338-06 barrels available for $100 on fleebay. Looking like stumbling into a bargain Mark V action is the only thing thing that is going to work.
Thanks again to all ya'll for the info.
