I had no use for a 270 until I got one, now I don't even take out the 25-06...

It always amazes me that a 6.5mm is a real killer. The 7mm is a real killer. But the 6.8mm is a failure. Hummmm.

My BAR is about the same. The only thing i had against it was when purchased it had a muzzle break on it. I had never shot it other than at the range with big muffs on. First time i shot it at a deer I thought my ears had broken. I contacted browning and got a steel replacement to screw on it to replace the brake which i haven't used since.
But the gun has always been dead butt accurate, but it isn't a lightweight to pack around. For me tho, it is like a 1100 shotgun, which i have fired many rounds through so that helps.

I was thinking of that just the other day, just like a .280 is a superior caliber.

There's not a lot of jobs I couldn't get done with a .270. I consider it one of the best choices for the ubiquitous "All Around Rifle" for North America. If I lost everything, a .270 or a .260 Rem would be one of the very first things I picked up.

The problems with the .270 came from before WW II on into the late '60's & early '70's when people made 50 yard shots with 130 grain bullets an those cup and core bullets blew up. It's amazing how those early issues are still talked about and associated with the .270.

Gimme a .270 with a 130 grain TSX and I'll take on anything in North America with confidence.

IIRC, Jack O'Connor once wrote about how he fired a lot of rounds trying to find the single most accurate load with a 130-grain bullet in a .270. He said he could never beat 49 to 49.5 grains of 4064 for accuracy.

While he used war-surplus 4831 for his hunting loads, probably because of economics and velocity, 4064 was the most accurate.

And to be honest, in my observations the 130 vs 150 grain is just like the .30-30 debate of 150 vs. 170 grain. I've never seen any difference in performance on actual game.
