Always interested in what other folks are planning, when, to where, and for what species, and of course what weaponry will accompant them. I am considering a hunt in Mozambique for Cape Buffalo in 2016, where are you all headed? I'd rather be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave....

Weaponry? My .338 Win. mag (Ruger 77) will go again, but I'm thinking of taking my 6.5x55 Swedish M96 the next time. Hope to get back by 2017 at the latest! Went to RSA 5 years ago for plains game and want to go back one more time. That time I took a Remington .338 Win Mag for Impala, Nyala, Warthog, Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Oryx, Blue Wildebeast and Kudu. For Mozambique, I just picked up a Dakota 76 African in .416 Rigby. I'd go back to the Omay North with Martin Pieters, and hunt Lake Kariba for a monster Hippo, and maybe an out sized croc. Then I'd transfer south and look for an eland and a bush pig. I will be accompanied by my wife and only grandchild, Aidan, who will be 13 at that time. This will be our 3rd trip to RSA and perhaps the last. We would tour with only a general plan using his contacts to search out bargains and interesting opportunities, never really knowing from day to day where we would end up next. In the end it may or may not save money, but would add a element of free spirited/ free lance adventure. Life begins at 40. Recoil begins at "Over 40" Coincidence? I don't think so.

Maybe 2017? I would like to get back to either South Africa or Namibia for springbok and black wildebeest. Those critters weren't available where I went the first time. When I make it back to Africa, I couldn't imagine I wouldn't also go after another warthog, impala gembok and kudu.

Brought home nice pair of 50lbs tusks. My only trophies of all my safaris. Also brought many memories that I enjoy daily. Bank account gets smaller,body wears out and it's time for the memories to take over. You can make them as good or as bad as you choose, they are yours and yours only.

Cape Buffalo and add in some other animals. 2. Combo Rifle/Archery hunt for plainsgame only. Greatly desire taking some animals with my bow, but don't want to spend the whole 8-10 days in a blind. Animals most desired: 1. Buff 2. Eland 3. Blue wilderbeest 4. hartebeest 5. Impala (2 trips, not shot one.. wife and son have) 6. another bushbuck. 7. warthog 8. pretty much whatever trophy gives me a good shot opportunity with my bow.

Did the PG hunt, with my son, back in 2008. Then we did a "poor mans" DG hunt, in Zim, in 2011. The most thrilling, in your face trip, is hunting tuskless cow elephant. You are in a herd of cows, up close, your potential to get charged is very real[ask me how I know ]. No taxidermy to worry about. Take lots of pics. Glad to know you're on the green side of the sod. I hope we have good weather while you're here. This past Friday some of us were at camp setting up for our parish men's outing on Saturday. The wind was whipping out of the north at about 25 mph, and with the temp at about 62 degrees and damp, the windchill was flat cold. Even the pigs stayed in bed! Glad you're over the flu, though. I have a tough time deciding which is best, but I lean toward the oryx. The last oryx I shot, while testing the Wby Back Country rifle, was this weird, deformed-horn fellow who the rancher wanted out of the herd. This was one of the fattest bulls I've seen, and a most-welcome addition to my freezer. If you can find a cull hunt for oryx, which is a bit like winning the lottery, jump on it! This oryx is the one I put on the wall, posed looking back over a shoulder so the horns are parallel to the wall. It's a beautiful mount. Axis rank high on my list for both trophy and tasty qualities. It is well worth the small expense of having hides from does tanned. The hides are beautiful additions to any game room. If you're fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.
