Spotted this one about a mile away while we were deer hunting. I much prefer coyotes to deer so we dropped into the bottom of the creek and started calling. Got him within 100yds.

I think mini-'flave had his heart pounding because he shot while the dog was trotting, and then barked... Rookies...

He connected but dad had to clean up on the running, wounded dog. Either way. Successful stand:

Travis do you use that 7mm08 on elk also? Im thinking of going that route for a lighter wieght than my almost 10 pound 280AI. Not looking at a true light weight but something around 7 or so.

I have never killed an elk. Matter of fact, I think that was the second time I'd ever bothered looking for one.

Mine is Howa ultra-light or whatever that action is referred to. It now has a Brux #3 cut @ 20". Sako Classic pattern, standard fill. Timney trigger, Talley LW's.

Weighs between 7.5 and 8lbs depending on scope and barrel.

That sounds just about perfect. Im really liking shorter handier rifles in smaller calibers.

I don't know if we're near good enough yet to give lessons. grin It's fun for sure though.. And snared coyotes are definitely the best ones to skin.

Anyone up at your camp killed any antlered game yet?

If I was going to build something right now for deer and below it would be a Howa action, #2 Douglass, and McMillan Sako Hunter in EDGE fill. Chambering would be a 22-250 with a 1-8" twist. Barrel chopped @ 21".

If it was for more bigger stuff I'd make it a 7-08.

Whatever this is worth to you...
