Got a set of Talley Lightweights in X-Low for my A-Bolt. Love the look and easy setup. However, I was kinda disappointed in that the scope didn't sit much lower than my medium Weaver's. Looking at the original Weaver mount setup, I realized there was allot to be gained if I could get lower height rings and a thinner base mount. Looked around and found that Warne makes such a low-pro weaver base ala the Maxima series. Went to the LGS and started trying out rings. Wanted Zees, but their low's are the exact height of Weaver med. Weaver lows were the ticket!!!

As much as others dislike original Weaver rings, there's literally nothing short of custom machined that can mount a scope lower than Warne Maxima bases and Weaver low rings. Mic'd mount height comes out to exactlty .285"............The next lowest set we tried was Leupold std rings/mounts in super low that mic's @ .310"

Just thought I'd pass this bit of info along.

Interesting!

I really struggle with getting the scope down low enough.. so I will try this on my next push feeder.

What scope is that? 33m?

Same thing's true for lever guns cept I use a Weaver base.
Crude as they are, sometimes those old Weaver rings are just what the Dr. ordered.

The Warne bases are great, no matter which "Weaver" ring that you use them with.

for me often times its best to see how the scope fits and comes up as I bring the rifle up. I don't think its a good idea to mount a scope extra low for looks. you may find that you get a better view through the scope in field positions if the scope is a touch higher.

It's definitely not just about aesthetics. I have a very low cheek weld.........in fact, I could stand to mount this even lower if it was possible, or raise the comb. Neither is gonna happen though. This is about as good and practical as I'm gonna get without going the custom route.

That's what I've found too. It's the lowest combination for marlin lever actions and TC contender carbines.

Weaver rings are a little tedious to get the reticle aligned but once they are set up, they don't budge.
