Tzone, are you muzzleloading this year?

So, you know how karma sometimes is good instead of bad? I usually try to give out 5 or 6 pounds of venison sausage at work to people who "don't like venison" or have not had it. I make special "sample-size" bags to give out.

Over the last three years it has become a hit, with a few hippy-chick nurses loving it and asking for more, and a range day or two with people who were rabidly anti-gun, who wanted to see what hunting rifles were all about, that ended up simply loving handguns (my Ruger SP101 in .22 and my GP100 in .357 are favorites, along with the Shield) and who now own guns.

Anyhow, I was talking to a guy at work about how I was down in the Minnesota River Valley the other day and passed on a nice big doe, as it was getting late and I had to get home before my son came home from school, and the two mile drag out would have not been doable time-wise. One of the previous non-hunter psuedo-hippies chimes in and says I should come and hunt muzzle-loader by his apple orchard.

Turns out his family loved the sausage, and my "price" is simply that he gets some more sausage if I get a deer.

I plan on grilling up fresh tenderloins for him if I get one this weekend, and, if it works out, he will be joining the ranks of hunter next year, as he is really interested in what you do with the deer after you shoot it.

Considering this person's stance on guns and hunting a few years ago, this could be analogous to one of you guys getting Diane Feinstein to pony up for a life NRA membership.....

From what I can tell the only downside will be that it is zone 601, antlerless only, and he showed me some phone pics of LARGE bucks that bed down right by his pond and walk over to the orchard every night.

Huh...funny how you converted that non-hunter psuedo-hippie just by feedin 'em the sausage...

grin

But seriously. That is way cool Goalie! Around here you don't run into too many people that don't hunt or are avidly against it. I guess we are lucky that way (so far)

As far as the large bucks hanging around. Just think of it as an "in" for the future when they do allow the harvesting of male timber goats.

P.S.

I'd keep that sausage lovin hippie happier than a queer at a tickle party! wink

grin

That would be funnier if you were referring to one of the young, cute, FEMALE nurses I work with instead of another hairy dude.

But, yeah, I am thinking bowhunting there next year is an option if all goes well.

That wouldn't be funnier. That would be just...normal.

Normal isn't funny Sir.

grin

All jokes and wisecracks aside. That would be a great bowhunting opportunity for you. Hope you get to take advantage.

I'm squirrely today because its the first day since friday after thanksgiving that I have felt somewhat human. Bad case of bronchitis was joined by the flu on Sunday. That seemed to clear up by Monday night but the bronchitis was worse than ever. Doc put me on some good meds yesterday and now I'm back to work feeling about 70% already.

*Edit*

Goalie,
Do you know if there is any correlation between double pulmonary embolisms and future respiratory issues? I seem to get bronchitis before I even get a sniffle in my nose now days...

I know you are more likely to have another PE, but I don't know whether or not you are predisposed to have other respiratory issues after a PE. I can ask one of the pulmonologists tomorrow at work though.

Actually, I recently had my "after a year" assessment and was put on a 2nd year of blood thinners. Not because of the residual clot I still have behind my knee but because of the size of the clots that I HAD in my lungs. The specialist didn't think that was too cool I guess...

Then the coumadin clinic called today. They were filling out my application for a home INR tester and accidentally discovered that the meds the walk-in clinic doc put me on yesterday for bronchitis will substantially increase the strength of the coumadin and I need to get in there to be checked and re-dosed tomorrow.

Oh I tell ya, it sure is FUN getting old!

Yeah, please don't be one of those people I see at work that come in with an INR of 7.4 or something and bleeding from every orifice.

You can come hunt with me this weekend T-zone. I have prime river bottom/farmland property to hunt on and not a gotdamn deer to be found on it. But we could shoot the heck out of coyotes!

Which reminds me I have to share the goofiest story. Sorry if this is long.

We have had coyotes over run the place this fall to the point where the dogs have been fighting them in our yard.

Saturday, after sitting on post, a buddy of mine came and picked me up at my house and we went for a drive. We turned out of my driveway and headed south. The nearest farm place is 1/2 mile down and on the west side of the road. They used to milk cows but now the fairly modern dairy barn is just used for storage and hay bales for his small amount of beef cows that he raises.

As we drove past the dairy barn I glanced over and there was a coyote right by the barn. I said "holy crap there is yote right there!" We stopped and the dang thing walked right in the barn like it owned the place. I remembered Capt'n Bang Flop is friends with one of their sons so I text him and he said he is on his way and his friend told us to kill it.

Meanwhile, we went back to my place and got my shotgun with turkey loads. The plan was for my buddy to go in one end and kick him out and I'd blast him.

When I snuck up, I saw a yote about a hundred yards out on the hillside of the pasture standing there watching me. I figured it was the one that went in the barn so I gave it warning shot and it reluctantly trotted off.

My buddy found too many bales in the way to walk through the barn so he walked around the west side banging on the walls and discovered another open door and a yote hauling tail inside.

I walked in the south door where the original one went and it was like a huge dog kennel that had never been cleaned. There was coyote crap everywhere! By the looks of the tracks around the barn and the amount of scat, the whole pack has been residing in there all this time and nobody knew it.

Capt'n Bang Flop showed up and we showed him and since he is laid off in the winter months he naturally wanted to trap them but his buddy said no because of the risk of catching their dog.

It was a little bit of downer but he sent me a pic today of a dead yote that made the mistake of coming out of the barn while he was on patrol. Give Bangflop some time on his hands and a mission and those yotes will rue the day they decided to take up residence in that barn lol

Footnote:
I'm pretty sure their dog has not made his lazy butt up to that end of the property in awhile if a herd of yotes had taken up residence and nobody noticed. smile
