But speaking of positive reinforcement, if he turns out to be pretty high drive you might consider prey-drive based training...basically rewarding with some toy time and yourself instead of treats. Drivey dogs will work miracles for a little play time with you. They have a strong drive for food and chasing small critters. Lots of people have reported much success utilizing these methods for training. This breed responds extremely poorly to harsh corrections.

Well, if you go that route-and you probably should- remember this tip from the Uber Dog Trainer. The toy needs to be interactive ( meaning you have to be connected to it) in order to generate the most fun and energy expenditure. This means frisbee, tug of war, tug with a kong on a rope is my favorite reward...but the dog prefers to play with you, not just with the toy. You'll be amazed at what they'll do for a little toy time.

When I got my two labs I had meant to register them, but for the life of me couldn't come up with any names... for day's just spent hours diddling with pencil and paper!
Wife comes in and just say's name them "Cinnamon" and "Taffy", just like that and it fit both of them.
Deed Done, and she hadn't even thought about it.

The three town dogs in Ethel, MO, where my wife and I lived the first three years of our marriage were "Git-Down", "Shut-up", and "Dammit". The Santa Fe mainline between Chicago and Kansas City comes through the middle of town and the trains run up to 90 mph, averaging around 75 mph. As they got older, Shut-up and Dammit got killed by trains. Git-Down was a smart ol' cuss and he took up with some of the wife's cousins, south of the tracks, and lived to a very ripe old age.

I figured as much, problem with smart dogs is they control you, not the other way around, but, they let you think you are in control. Gonna be fun, for sure.
I haven't had a puppy for 12 years. Hopefully I can still keep up. I'm glad you made the move bro! Your previous one would approve.

Yep, absolutely perfect  Last July while staying with my wife's cousin and her husband, they picked up a new Maine Coon kitty cat. She couldn't think of a name for him so I told her, finding a name for a cat is easy, just name him Steve. She decided to name him Tobey but we still call him Steve.

Wife and kids got me a framed picture of Sammy (our lab) for my birthday. We hung it on our family wall. This little guy won't replace her but he will sure fill a big void in our home. We decided on Mojo, BTW.
