In the Planet Rock survey, Led Zepplin had 3 songs in the top 9 including #1. This is all time. Nobody else can touch that. They had 10 in the top 100. Beatles are similar there. They specifically talk about Rush and AC/DC with LOTS of songs but few real hits. As far as longevity, Zepplin only lost their drummer. They had a lot of success with surrogate drummers since then but none as good as Bonham!

Best Band Ever, Eagles get my vote, followed closely by AC/DC! And ZZ Top gets Honorable Mention.
Screw the Rolling Stones! A bunch of no talent hacks, IMO.
That's very interesting. Listen to ZZ Top's "Francine" sound kinda familiar? Like "Brown Sugar" maybe? Just one example of how influential the "no talent hacks" were and are.
For bone crushing, no frills rock and roll I'd have to vote for UFO. Lots of talent there with the original lineup. And Mike Shenker was and is a guitar playing fool, too bad he couldnt keep his alcoholism under control. They didn't get much airplay in the states but I've owned all of their albums and haven't heard a bad one yet.
The sainted JMH said that BG was one of the most talented and underrated guitarists out there. Always enjoyed ZZT but left the one show I saw them play--they headlined at the Worcester Centrum with the Black Crowes opening; must've been early 90s-- pretty much disgusted with the drummer's performance. We were third row or so and throughout the entire set he was yawning and I swear to Jayzus checking his watch. I've seen more enthusiasm displayed by snails after being stepped on in a springtime drizzle...

Nice play! Always loved UFO. Saw the MSG in Tokyo. Gary Moore, Uli Roth, Thin Lizzy, Eric Bell, etc.
