I didn't do much car work over the weekend. Mostly shop cleaning and organizing. But I did start refurbishing the used steering wheel I purchased. I ground the cracks open with a dremel. I filled the cracks with body filler, was going to use an epoxy or jb weld, but figured this should work. I blew some urethane surfacing primer on the wheel after sanding the body filler. Tomorrow I will do the final sanding, paint it red, maybe some clear coat too. You can maybe see in the pics that I decided to go with a smooth face on the rim of the wheel rather than the grooves it originally had.

Dave, excellent work. Maybe you could do a fine pinstrip with a brush on that flat surface of the wheel before doing clear. really make it pop! Car looks very good man!

I thought about that, a pinstripe or something. But sometimes you just need to stop dicking around and get stuff finished. Lol! Correct interior red with clear coat.

Looking good man!
A guy can make some bux just doing steering wheels. Pops does a few a year for extra spending money.

Yeah, you're right tom. There are several niche segments of restoration that a shop could perform full time and make a living. Steering wheels, upholstery, body/paint, media blast, trim reconditioning, mechanical...
I'm going to delegate some of these specific tasks to my shop slaves.
Er, I mean... Family.
Lol

Great work!
There's a Ford Galaxie sitting in a parking lot down in Rock Springs Wyoming. Been there for a couple of weeks. No for sale sign on it though. Just thought I'd mention it.

Dang, never tried to do a steering wheel.

Its absolutely stunning, T.
First wheel I've ever done, I can see I will be doing many more in the future.
The nason clear I put over the red lacquer, flowed perfectly. The wheel looks like it was dipped in cherry syrup. Lol!

She'll be ready for the road soon. We are kind if dragging our feet with the interior and a few other items. I have to have the trim on the sides of the exterior before I can close up the side panels in the interior.
