Wife and I lived in Santa Cruz, she's even lived in Berkeley and Boulder.. We always laugh when people call Bozeman liberal. Not trying to ruffle any feathers. What I know about Montana I've learned from what people who live there post on this site. As 264Mag said earlier, liberal in Montana is probably pretty conservative, comparatively.
4 out of 5 Great Lakes prefer Michigan.

Housing in Billings is actually on the rise and the supply is getting squeezed. Just looking to list a house we own on 40 acres about 15 miles outside of Billings so I've been looking into that aspect.
If you want high-end home in new developments, there are plenty of those right in Billings and right on the edge.
Plenty of opportunities to live outside of Billings withing 20 miles that are really nice depending on your priorities.
Airport is decent. Fares are high to get most anywhere.
Quality of life is great. Like others have said, a good place to start from for any of a number of activities.
Lived outside of Billings for ~15 years. PM if you have any questions I might be able to help with.

I don't think you need to move to Billings! It's pretty close to Big Timber and they've got lots of those BPCR folks up there and before you know it you'll be hounded by all those nuts to buy a Sharps rifle and THAT leads to expenditures that you will forever regret!!
Even birds know not to land downwind!

A possible job transfer opportunity might come up in the near future for a position in Billings, MT. I hunt and fish quite a bit in MT and have Driven through Billings a few dozen times.
Any input on quality of life in Billings? Home prices in good areas, etc? Decent airport to fly out of to other cities?
I know gets cold in winter and hot in summer. Where are you moving from?

I keep sticking my toe in the Montana water with my wife to see if she'll go for a move. The latest was last week when a job I'm well qualified for popped up on Manhattan, Montana. Pics of the area look nice, if a little thin on trees and I see it's near Bozeman, which I understand is a college town and probably fairly liberal. As compared to Michigan? Wouldn't even have to give it a first thought, much less a second; my gear would be packed, the realtor hired to sell the current place, and gone to MT.

I was born and raised in the Billings area and in the late 50 and early 60's it was a cool town. we built hot rods and would go to Bozeman to drag race on weekends. Then Bozeman was a neat little town but it soon became full of Kalifornia interlopers and then home to the first Montana Queer Cowboy Rodeo.
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.

We travel to Billings quite often to shop and visit Cabelas.. I really like Montana, infact if I had not lived so long in this valley, I would make the move north.. But my wife's sister is close to us here, so she is not hot on a move.. But if I were starting over, that is the place I would begin..

I know gets cold in winter and hot in summer. Where are you moving from? Yakima WA area. I live in a log home now off of the grid up in the mountains of central WA. Yakima is about 80 per cent Mexican. Drive by shootings, tweekers everywhere, Mexican street and drug gangs, drug cartels, etc. Nice area but the crime is terrible here. Will miss fishing for salmon and halibut and lings in the salt though Thanks guys for all of the input Fingers crossed now. Guess will have to sell the truck and pick a Subaru if I move to Montana though

I'd rather drive a Subaru every day in MT than a F350 any place else.

Airport is good/large.
Not familiar with housing.
Weather down that way is not bad IMO. I wouldn't hesitate to live in Billings.
Travis Coming from someone that lives in Havre... EXACTLY! I thought it, but couldn't bring myself to say it. Sycamore
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....
