Yankeedom Btw what a bullshit map...most of Texas is Greater Appalachia? Don't worry. It will soon be changing to Greater Mexalachia.

Right about where the 1st T is on 'The Far West', there should be a small blue spot for Left Coast Annex - Sun Valley, ID, home of the CA liberals. It most certainly isn't part of The Far West. Sadly,,,, every state in the "Far West" has a few of those annex's.

The Appalachian Mountain range extends from Virginia down through that red area. That is why they call it Appalachia.

As I've long concluded about fence sitters, er ah moderates, the only reason to sit on a fence is if you like getting a fence post up your back side. I'm not a fence sitter on any issue I can think of. On just about any political issue I can show you were BOTH parties have it wrong.

Fencer or moderate? You claim no. What's left? (hint there) Don't confuse "party" with philosophy - i.e. Rs are conservative.

Well there's he problem. You think if it's not one side or the other then you're just a fence sitter. Look, if both sides are for big government, which side do you find yourself on? I don't sit on any fences, I weigh each issue and make up my own mind. I really can't care any less if liberals or conservatives agree with me or not. In fact, I kinda worry if one of those two sides agree with me; makes me think I missed something. I don't care about political sides, I care about what's right and what's wrong. I tend to find that on most issues BOTH sides have it wrong and have it that way purely for political expediency. But I'm not wishy washy about any issue, I have a firm opinion and I can make my case.

Political lines cannot be drawn on a map anymore.
That is over.
It is a conservative vs liberal thing now. It could be your neighbor, or your co-worker. Or your sister, or even your wife that is your political opponent.
There are concentrations of them in all large cities, and those are the only places that matter, because it lets the electorate swing in the direction of them.

Based on the map "Yankeedom"
Mother's family came from Holland in 1657; father's family came for Ireland in 1847. All settled in the NY area.

Our American neighbours can draw funny maps all they want, just leave us Canadians off of it please. A map like that is not helpful to any reasoned discussion about culture, it just draws lines between people.

Appalachia born, deep south raised, with some world travel and far north (pnw) thrown in for flavor. What is the point?
