I don't care anything about car racing or basketball and very little for the NFL. When I see a thread about any of them I don't open it and I certainly don't post comments expressing how much I think those sports suck. Hint.
Puzzles me why the same thing can't apply to "religion" or anything else. Here's a hint: because this is a business (i.e., Rick receives revenue from it and is legally responsible for it). For the same reason that porn is yanked off of here, as well as some of the more egregious racism and other filth that pops up from time to time, religious threads get scrutiny because it can and does potentially threaten his business and his legal responsibility. The type of stuff that was posted under "religious" threads that lead to the making of CATC not visible to the public (and seems to be cropping up again) directly threatened Rick's business relationship with sponsors and possibly him personally for at least implicitly condoning such activities on his site. Now, when NASCAR or the NFL or basketball threads start doing the same then they'll get the same scrutiny and treatment. I am not familiar with the sub-forum in question but find it hard to believe that the other stuff that goes on here everyday is okay with the "sponsors" but people arguing about religion was or is going to cause them to pull out. But, there are tons of double standards and hypocrisy in today's world so you may in fact be correct. Not an argument for a dedicated religious forum....I really don't care....merely an observation.

Out of sight and out of mind makes some more comfortable. It is amazing so many are unable to refrain jumping into those threads to ridicule those who agree in word and deed with the statement "...the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. If it were about business and revenue, a LOT of stuff would be yanked from this place that isn't. In fact, the very subject matter of this Campfire (guns, hunting), not to mention a primarily conservative bent, automatically disqualifies us from many revenue sources, and creates the type of heartburn that 4ager implies would intimidate or affect my decisionmaking. I can speak for myself, thank you. Heartburn comes with this gig. I accept what I have to. No, the reason Christ at the Campfire was nuked was because I naively thought it would be a great place for Christians, which most of the Campfire membership is or professes to be, to fellowship. It wasn't. In fact, it was just the opposite. And that's it in a nutshell. It turns out we can't fellowship so well as "Christians," but only (maybe) if we are a certain brand of Christian. It is true that I and many others here are Roman Catholic, and the level of Catholic-bashing was over the top. I am a hunter. I do not have to sponsor anti-hunting or anti-2nd Amendment content. I am an American. I do not have to sponsor anti-American content. I am a devout Catholic, and a Christian, and I do not choose to sponsor anti-Catholicism. As wise sage and member of this Campfire mentioned to me, "There are no pews in Cabelas." Now I know why. I will not make the same mistake again. As to the Private Forum, I do not visit it. It is decidedly NOT by invitation only as some have claimed, and never has been. If you ask, you will be granted access. BUT, you are on your own. I consider it a large group Private Message of sorts. By all accounts, it has dwindled, and I am not surprised, after what I saw on CATC. I want no part of it.

I am not Catholic but I have to say the Catholic bashing was way over the top and was in my opinion inexcusable. I was amazed Rick put up with it for so long. I"m all for a good debate, but there is no need to bash. Many of the Christians here are more moral then their Holy Book, they just don't realize it.

What it basically came down to was a handful of fundamental baptists on the CATC who though they were going to be the only ones in heaven. It was a pretty good place until they took over.
We did have some rather epic brawls over the years, no better or worse than a thread about optics or rifles.

CATC sure did out a ton of "good" Christians. Some remaining get respect far beyond what they deserve after CATC, too.

Religion is kinda like guns: 1. There are a lot of folks nervous at the idea of it 2. There are a lot of folks who think anybody with much is nuts 3. There are a lot of religious people who think some models are better (or not) than others 4. There are those who find a real need and utility for it in their lives 5. There are a lot of who think their ideas are better than anybody elses......and on and on.
