Is there any sort of trigger replacement to fix a bad trigger pull on a savage 99? Or is the only way taking to a good gunsmith? Thanks for any help.

A good smith will likely tell you to deal with it...

I have had good luck with some polishing, and have
ruined a couple by sending them to a willing gunsmith.
I agree with Jed. It is a crap shoot to get better results,
and you could end up a helluva lot worse off when you get it back.
Maybe someone here has a secret to share, but I say to be very careful.
Since the 99's were practiclly hand made, I would have
figured Savage would have made a better trigger..If one
could be made.
If you have a late (Post mil.) 99, try to find a pre-mil..
They are MUCH better.

The lever safety guns can be cleaned up pretty good.

Tang safety guns are a pita to work with.

The gun I'm refering to has the rotary magazine, Model F i believe, and it has the safety that locks the trigger and moves into a slot on the lever. I'm postitive that it is built post war. The trigger pull is just real mushy and long. So I take it that the best thing to do is to deal with it? Thanks for all the help

I also have a pre mil F that didn't have a great trigger. Luckily my smith knows 99's and turned it into a really good trigger. It is a pretty simple mechanism and I would think any smith worth his salt would be able to improve it.

Polish, polish, polish - that's what it takes. Resist the urge to grind off anything.

I have yet to find a 99 trigger that did not perform better than I can shooting offhand. Thats what a lever action is designed for...that being said if a rest is available I'll take it...but hair triggers and bench shooten is not what the 99 is about. Instead of fretten about the trigger on this one or that one just get another 99 and one more and one more and so on...bound to find a good one in the bunch. JMHO
