Good job Dave, he looks like a happy camper.
My father gave my son his first knife when he was about 7 or 8 years old for Christmas. It was a little Swiss Army Knife. My mother was against it, but my father insisted and said he'd be OK and not to worry. We stressed to my son not to use it unless we were supervising him and he agreed.
New Years Eve, we were getting ready to go out and the kids were down stairs. My son had got a toy truck for Christmas and it was still in the box, zip tied. He figured he'd cut the zip ties with his new knife. A minute later my daughter runs into our room screaming that he cut himself. We ran down stairs and it looked like a murder scene. He stuck it right through his middle finger. He's a tough guy and took it in stride, he was more afraid of us and that he was in trouble. The finger is OK.
My mother used the old "I told you so" line.
He's 25 now and starting to make his own knives. That's awesome! "you'll shoot your eye out!" lol! And now he makes knives, UBER!
Something clever here.

Very nice. I still have my first knife that my Dad bought me when I was eight (1970). Same basic design as Joe's but made by Western.

COOL ! 1 week & 2 days till predicted usage ! Hey Paul, if I didn't have to work today, we could be hunting right now! Youth firearms season runs from today through Sunday. We will be hunting tomorrow by this time. I'd be out there at camp with Joey tonight except I have an appointment to get a cortisone shot in my shoulder tomorrow AM. We're heading out to hunt as soon as that's done. (Knife could be in use as soon as tomorrow!) Well, that's even UBERER ! Good luck to CBJ & Mini-T !! Hope to see success & great memories !
Paul.

Jealous of you guys with the knives from your dad's. My dad didn't hunt. I had to trade my way into a hunting knife from a classmate in 7th grade. I somehow had a worn down Schrade trapper that another other kid really wanted. I traded him the trapper and 5 bucks for a large Kershaw hunting knife(was probably hot). Still have it around here somewhere..

I'd gladly skip lunch for one of those. Got several off of him. His idea.

Cool - I remember the first one I used. It was a Marbles that my great-grandfather had given my dad back in the late 60's - given when, most likely made by my great-grandfather and likely "hand select" in the quality department.
You always remember the first.

I have a picture somewhere of my great grandfather in the knife room from 1927 IIRC. He retired from Marbles back in the 70's. Was the Knife Room foreman/supervisor etc. His son in law, my dad's uncle followed him then. All the Marbles stuff we have around our place is the old stuff from the 50's and 60's - safety axes, compasses, poly-chokes, knives and a NIB Gamegetter. 22lr over 410 I believe. And yeah - NIB with ATF stamp from back in the day.
