If by paper punching, you mean group shooting, you want a bit of power available ; more than 4x. For plinking or target (not group) shooting, a scope with a low end available is handy.
I'd look at a Leupold 6x36 or maybe a 3-9 EFR, both of which are reasonable in size and weight. To save a couple bucks, look at the Weaver K6.
