I believe this is typical with pre-64 M70's.
I have only owned four and currently have three and they have been as accurate as most of my custom barreled rifles.
My experience matches yours and load development has been easy.
The late BobinNH always said the pre-64 barrels were the equivalent of a cut rifled custom and I believe him.
