Working in the trades you get to know a lot of guys by a nick name and usually never hear their real name. Was working as foreman on one job and a guy I had known for years as "Nick" turned out to have a given name of Thomas. One day at lunch I asked him how he went from Thomas to "Nick"? His brother was sitting at the same table as us and his face lit all up. He told Nick to tell the story or he would.

Anyway, turns out "Nick" used to run a trap line. He carried a ruger .22 pistol. He'd just used the pistol to dispatch a coon one day and then stuck the ruger in the front of his pants as he bent over to pick up the coon. The pistol fired and Thomas became "Nick"...

Nick said he remained calm and drove himself to the emergency room. He started to worry when his wife, one of the nurses in the ER, fainted slap out on the floor.
