The only scope I had that fit on a No. 1 without crawling the stock to get a full sight picture is a Leupold 1.5-5x20. I have the tube less than 1/2" from the end but it has worked well for the way we hunt. All the others are like yours. Fine at the low power and crawl the stock at the highest.
I tried the Weaver to Ruger mounts and if they are set as far back as possible you still have to crawl a bit on the high power setting.
They don't look so good but are better than the stock Ruger ring set up.
