Dude, that was ground breaking stuff back in the 1960s. Look at all the elements it tied together. Sci-fi, Space travel, suspended animation, nuclear holocaust, Orwellian Animal Farm. Questions of man existence and future (more D. H. Lawrence than Gus). Had the struggle between science, intellectualism, and totalitarian rule. Had political intrigue and conspiracy and cover up all before Watergate. Original flick was fantastically crafted. Others, not so much.
