They both are great pump shotguns. However, that nasty little thing called time, has decisively proven the 870's twin action bar out lasting or being better than the Model 12, only means anything to those who believe Remington's magazine adds.

The 870 was made to last a life time of hard use. The Model 12???? Two at minimum. They never did cheapen the Model 12. When they couldn't make it to the standard and make a profit, it was done. Reason being a Model 12 was all machined steel and essentially hand fit. In the glory years of the "Wingmaster" it never reached that standard.

Not degrading the 870, because I've put way more shells thru an 870 than a Model 12. But if the better of the two is the choice, take the Model 12 and run away.

However, Remington did put the safety in the right place. A point on which some will disagree.
