Not degrading the 870, because I've put way more shells thru an 870 than a Model 12. But if the better of the two is the choice, take the Model 12 and run away.
However, Remington did put the safety in the right place. A point on which some will disagree.
I have a 16 M12 that I hunt grouse with. It has a crowfoot. That safety is quicker than my 870s.
