Had a couple 30-30 336's , they are fine rifles for their purpose . The only 336 I have now is a 35 Remington . The only 30-30 I have is a Savage 340 , for whatever reason this thing shoots 30-30 ammo as good as it gets , often an inch or so .
There is no telling what the numbers of deer are that have been taken with the 30-30 .
Yep , there are stories of deer being wounded and never found , but you can figure most of those stories come from people who would have the same problem with any caliber .
Then there are deer who just take a spell to realize they are dead . Have seen deer with lungs literally mushed run a hundred yards or so .
Have seen them drop dead in their tracks and not a vital hit .
