If I had to do it all over again I would be a plumber. I'm a remodeling carpenter and it is a dirty dusty mess of half the price of a plumber.
I've done plenty of carpentry work and roofing and masonry work. None of it's really that bad and there's plenty of things worse that pay less. Like working in a bluestone quarry, being a full time dairy farm hand or working on a tie gang on the railroad, all of which I've done at one time or another.
