Both of the above are bad practices. First round or two goes into the backstop before you begin your groups.

If a rifle can't handle a 5 round string without heat issues, it needs to go one of two places. Either to the smith to have the action and bolt face trued along with a new barrel, or down the road.

Life and range sessions are too short to wait 5 minutes between shots.
