This thread has been helpful to me. I'm thinking about buying this Ruger #1 in 35 Whelen that my son saw at a local gun show about a month ago. The guy is checking to see if he still has it. They want $950.00 for it and my son says the wood is beautiful. It would be my first #1 and my first 35 Whelen. I don't reload, so I'm trying to figure out what kind of factory ammo to shoot. I like Barnes TTSX in other rifles, so I was thinking about 200gr. in this. For now, it would be on whitetails, but in the future, who knows. What say you?
If I was going TTSX I would go lighter than 200 grains to ensure the velocity is there to open the bullet beyond 250 yards. They offer a .35 180 grain no?
