Another question - chopping a barrel affect accuracy? My current 280 shoots MOA with 5 Accubonds. I'd hate to mess with that......
Assuming your current rifle has a 24" barrel, you're looking at no more than a 2 ounce weight savings, if even that. I'd second the notion of attaching a barrel mounted sling swivel if shouldered you are having snagging issues.
