In FMJ projectiles, the coating is made from a copper strip by a punching and drawing process. The base of the projectile is not covered with copper: the lead is visible to the naked eye.This explains why they can be loaded using the jacketed bullet data, unlike other companies, like Berrys, that electroplate their lead.
