The sights on a 21 can be lower than a large ring Mauser with a set of detachable bases. I also spent a bunch of time on the mill whittling the 21 receiver dovetails fore and aft to better match the rings I made. When it comes to checkering and quarter ribs I'm of the belief that less is more. They still have to be functional and pleasing to the eye with placement on the project.
