Blacktailer, no sir, the gun didn't come across the plains in 1847. The Jones underlever action was not developed until the mid 1860's. 1847 was still muzzleloading days.

My oldest rifle is a German double rifle by E. Goldmann in Erfurt. It dates from the 1870's. Oldest shotgun is a Manton double in 16 bore from the 1840's best we can tell. It's getting to the point I have more pre-WWI rifles than post WWI......and I rather like it that way.
