The original rifle. Finish and checkering look like afterthoughts but a good piece of walnut there. Note that big pancake rollover cheekpiece.

What it turned into. Had a local general purpose gunsmith slim down the stock and cheekpiece, stain it with French red which I thought would be darker - really should have gone with a dark walnut in retrospect - and cut new checking.
