As Stick pointed out, you can alter feeding in a 700 by tweaking the box mag lips. I've done it with good results.

If the round pops out too quick, widen the lips. I put a piece of iron in a vice, passed the sheet metal box over the iron and tapped the bend with a hammer. That tends to widen the lips, causing the round to remain under the rails longer. It's a trial and error process, but it works.

With a pre-64 6.5-284, my smith milled the follower rib thinner to better accommodate the fat case. That seemed to help, as that gun feeds very well.

700's, IMO, are easier to tweak..
