My Mom had a stroke many years ago, I read Psalms to her and she came around. It may not help in your Dad's circumstances, but it can't hurt. If you do, I'd recommend starting with the first and go in order. I didn't even realize it as I read, but Mom was in the same place with no way out that David was, but the end of each one confirmed David's faith the Lord would get him out of that bad place.
