As others have posted,
A cartridge only has so much energy.
A break couldnt substantially change that.
It does redirect it.
My 12ga O/U is ported.
Even though it is a low pressure/low blast application,
It is much more noisy. For bystanders. Shooting it,
you don't notice it. Guys waiting to shoot, don't like it.
