Well, I'm still a little confused whether it's an 1899H or a 99H? The 1899H is a take down with a lightweight barrel, and weighs in at a flat 6 pounds.I find mine a joy as a walk around rifle. The 99H is a solid frame with a medium weight barrel, didn't see a weight listed but I'd assume it's only a couple ounces at most. I don't have one to compare. Good luck with either, I really like the 303, I'm sure you will too.
For whatever reason I like .303s but somehow I ended up with 3 99s in .303 and they all have 26" barrels. I'm also a big fan of .30-30s for the same unknown reasons. At least I like to shoot them, I haven't hunted with a .30-30 in a long time.
Looking through Mr. Royal's book, I see carbines ( I didn't realize this was the actual name for a model, although apparently briefly), Es, Fs, Gs and Hs all had 20" barrels when chambered for .303S. I'm still not able to identify all the models correctly on sight.
