Yes, the model letters were designated in 1921 but the ads and catalogs for 1921/1922 go back and forth between 1899 and 99. They get more consistent on 99 in later 1922 and on.

This is just more info showing that the change from 1899 to 99 was a marketing name change only. The REAL change was the introduction of the model letters and the 300 Savage cartridge. No physical changes to the guns, but a lot of new cartridge options for most rifle styles.

We ignore the 1 year use of 1899 names just to prevent confusion just like we ignore the fact the 99H wasn't called the 99H until 1927, 1924-1926 it was the "Carbine".
