Harvey Donaldson's book, "Your's Truly", has stories about HD hunting 'chucks near his home in Little Falls, NY, back then. HD was well acquainted with Lysle Kilbourn and M.S. Risley, two other gun looneys, who designed and improved cartridges. HD was a Steven falling block fan and seemed to prefer rimmed cartridges for his wildcatting builds. HD claimed to have designed the original 22-250, using a 0.228" barrel blank that he got from someone at Savage.
One hundred years ago the northeast was a lot more open, small farm fields and cattle pastures that have grown up into wood lots than it has been for the past 50 years or so.
